Flag football is like a form of 5-a-side American football. American football might seem a bit daunting to the beginner. That's why Flag football was developed - a non-contact version of the sport played by boys and girls of all ages and abilities.
Flag football is the perfect way to learn the ins and outs of American football without the worry of expensive equipment. With Flag you get all the passing, catching and running elements of American football, but you tackle by removing the flag of the ball carrier, that is worn on their hips. If you have seen or played tag rugby, then Flag football is the American football equivalent. While the games are competitive, the emphasis is on taking part and having some fun - your size, ability and experience don't matter so much as your enjoyment of playing the game.
Many people go on to play American football once they've mastered flag, but if you want to stick with Flag you can carry on playing in Coventry with the Bears and Huskies or with the Jets Adult flag team. The benefits of playing flag football with the Coventry Bears and Huskies are: - Its a simple game that is quick and easy to learn - You'll be taught by qualified, police checked, international class and championship winning coaches - No expensive kit is required - all you need is a pair of football boots / trainers to start with. - The game is open to males and females, aged 7+ - If you're good enough, you can even play for your country or Great Britain in European tournaments or even the World Cup The Coventry Bears and Huskies play in a national league, our Cadets (up to year 7) are the current national champions. We play up and down the country in tournaments. The team travel to the tournaments in a bus, though some parents also drive to the tournaments with their youngsters.
